Sydney Mechanics' School Of Arts (SMSA)

About

The Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts is a vibrant not-for-profit organisation that has made a vital contribution to the social, artistic and cultural life of Sydney since 1833. Established by figures such as Henry Carmichael and Major Thomas Mitchell, the SMSA is the oldest Mechanics Institute/School of Arts in Australia and is home to Sydney's longest running lending library.

Centrally located at 280 Pitt St, Sydney, the SMSA offers 4 meeting rooms, a theatre, a small commercial kitchen, and a foyer area for hire. Every year hundreds of organisations hire space at the SMSA using the rooms and theatre for a variety of purposes, from conferences and training to film nights, discussion, and recreation groups.
